Mary Rosetta “Bo” Foley, 83, of Leonardtown, formerly of Compton, died Nov. 12, 2012, at Cedar Lane Apartments in Leonardtown.
Born Nov. 2, 1929, in Compton, she was the daughter of the late Etta and Francis Leslie Cryer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Foley, the love of her life, at 46. The date of her death would have been their 65th anniversary.
She is survived by her children, Charles Michael Foley (Joyce) of Compton, Janet Marie Branson (George) of Lexington Park, Susan Rose Johnson (Billy) of Morganza and Kathryn Lynn Arnold (Pat) of Bushwood; grandchildren, Kimberly Foley Gatton, Julie Foley, Lauren Martz, Charles Johnson, Craig Branson, Emily Arnold, Melanie Johnson, Jesse Arnold, Joseph Johnson, Bethany Klobnock and Erin Tule; great-grandchildren, David Foley, Christian Erdolino, Brendan Gatton and Kylie, Haylie and Jacob Martz. She was preceded in death by her son, John Dennis Foley; a grandchild, Denise Branson; and siblings, William Cryer, Maude Nelson, Helen Barnett, Marie Galer and Catherine Frey.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1947. She was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, where she was a homemaker and mother and early on, being the daughter of a waterman, she was an avid soft crabber. She worked at Minitec in Leonardtown and was a geriatric aide at St. Mary’s Nursing Center and Bayside nursing home.
Following the death of her husband, she went to work for St. Mary’s County public schools as a food service worker at Leonardtown Middle School, and then became cafeteria manager at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. For many years she worked for Leonard Gallery of Homes as a real estate agent. At one point, she held three jobs.
She enjoyed attending prayer meetings and praying the rosary. She traveled to Italy twice and made many pilgrimages to Conyers, Ga. She loved to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed warm days on her porch and the simple things life offers.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m., with prayers to be recited at 7 p.m., at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morganza, with the Rev. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Compton. Pallbearers will be Charles Johnson, Craig Branson, Jesse Arnold, David Foley, Joseph Johnson and Ben Martz. Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Erdolino, Kylie Martz, Jacob Martz, Brendan Gatton, Haylie Martz and C.J. Bolen.
