Juanita Poff Nicholson, 90, of Lusby died Nov. 9, 2012, at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.

She was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Claudine Elizabeth Page and Clyde Arthur Poff Sr.

She enjoyed her entire 90 years. Even during her last week, she was a “mover and shaker” participant at her most recent home at Solomons Nursing Center. She drove daily until a few months ago in June. She was very active with her senior friends and the Golden Girls Club. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 274 in Lusby, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2562 in Silver Spring and the Solomons Third Alarm Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise M. Day; and grandson, Tracy Benson McGowan.

She is survived by her children, Joan Zottig of Oakton, Va., Benson McGowan of Rockville, Vic McGowan of Lusby and Juanita Hamilton of Frederick; brother, Clyde Poff Jr. of Rockville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Family received friends Nov. 11 at Rausch Funeral Home in Lusby.

A service celebrating her life was held Nov. 12 at Fort Lincoln Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Faith Lewis officiating.

Interment followed at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood.
