A Charlotte Hall woman set fire to her bedroom Nov. 9 and had to be taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, the Maryland State Fire Marshal reported.

Investigators determined that Lisa Farrell was involved in setting fire to the master bedroom of her home in the 13200 block of Budds Landing Place at 2:10 p.m.

Twenty-five responding firefighters from volunteer departments in Newburg, Bel Alton and La Plata were able to control the fire within a minute of their arrival.

Farrell had to be taken to Civista Medical Center in La Plata for evaluation. The blaze caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.

Smoke alarms were present in the home but did not activate.

The fire remains under investigation.
