Submitted photo Students at Cardinal Hickey Academy in Owings recently held a food drive for the Humane Society of Calvert County. Fifth graders Grace Casper, above left, and Tess Casper were acting principals for a day and decided to offer a dress-down day for any student who brought in food items, blankets, toys or monetary donations in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. All donations were then gathered and taken to the Humane Society in Sunderland. More than $500 worth of items was donated, according to a press release.
