The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Committee is accepting entries for its literary arts contest held in observance of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The writing contest is open to all elementary, middle and high schools students in Montgomery County.

The 2013 contest theme is: “HIS dream…I Act…WE change!”

Entries must be 150 words, or less, in poetry or essay format. They will be judged on understanding and appreciation of the ideals of King, clarity and originality of expression and adherence to the theme.

Deadline for entries is Friday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m.

The top two entries will be invited to read their essays and receive an award on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the Music Center at Strathmore.
