A Waldorf man has been charged with kicking a police officer and spitting on another the morning of Nov. 8 along Homette Place in Waldorf, the Charles County Sheriffís Office reported.

Police were dispatched to the area at 2:06 a.m. for the report of a suspicious person, later identified as Joseph Marvin Swann, 31.

When officers arrived, they saw Swann walking down the middle of the street, cursing and yelling while carrying an American flag on a wooden post.

As the officers approached Swann, he kicked one and spat on the other. The officers subdued Swann and put him in their patrol car.

A computer check revealed that Swann had five open warrants, including for assault and resisting arrest.

As the officers were driving to the county jail, Swann kicked out the rear window of the cruiser, police reported.

Swann was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assaulting police officers, destruction of property and theft. He is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
