A New Market woman and her two young children arrived home from an errand on Tuesday morning to find their rented trailer home on fire, state investigators later reported as they try to determine the cause and point of origin of the blaze that destroyed the residence.

The loss from the fire at Lillie Love Lane was estimated at $40,000, an investigator said, including the contents owned by Megan Hall and her husband, Joseph Hall, who was at work when the fire occurred.

“They’re being helped by family and friends, along with the Red Cross,” deputy state fire marshal Melissa Bean said Wednesday.

Mechanicsville, Hollywood, 7th District and Charles County volunteer firefighters were on the scene of the blaze for more than three hours, according to an online report by Mechanicsville Fire Chief John Raley.
