The theft of more than 12,000 prescription pills during a pair of burglaries at a St. Mary’s pharmacy led to police raids this month at two suspects’ homes, narcotics detectives reported Wednesday, and the recovery of more than half of the pills and a safe stolen from the business.

A court commissioner ordered Wednesday morning that Christopher Aloysius Guy, 27, of Mechanicsville be held in jail in lieu of $10,000 bond, online court records state, on charges of theft and second-degree burglary. Detectives report that a Wicomico Shores resident also was taken into custody.

About 1,600 hydrocodone pills were stolen during an initial burglary on Aug. 14 at New Market Pharmacy, and more than 11,000 pills, mostly narcotics, were taken during a Nov. 19 break-in at the business, according to sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Alioto. The stolen pills had a street value, police report, of more than $275,000.
