Santa Claus is once again on his way to Prince Frederick for the Prince Frederick Masonic Lodge’s 16th annual Visit with Santa event.

Mike O’Kelly will be filling in for Santa for his fourth consecutive year and his wife, Sippie, will be Mrs. Claus. At the event, present donations will be accepted for Project ECHO in Prince Frederick.

O’Kelly said what keeps him coming back to the event is “the smiles on the kids’ faces.”

“It doesn’t get any better than that,” O’Kelly said.

While O’Kelly said present requests include items ranging from iPads to ponies, some things have remained the same.

“The girls still want dolls and the guys still want trucks and trains,” he said.

Though both gift and money donations for Project ECHO are accepted, O’Kelly said attending the event and having a picture with Santa is always free of charge.

“This isn’t so much about the money; it’s about the kids,” O’Kelly said.

Every year, he said, a variety of door prizes are also given away. This year, the door prizes include gift cards for Dunkirk Hardware, Hair Cuttery, Second Look Books, Ruby Tuesdays and The Greene Turtle, as well as DVDs donated by Office Depot.

“The businesses are really good about supporting us,” O’Kelly said.

The event will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Prince Frederick Masonic Lodge at 655 Main St. in Prince Frederick.

“The kids come from everywhere. I get a lot out of it because they do,” O’Kelly said.
