Robert Barry Sweeney, 55, La Plata.
Robert Barry Sweeney, 55, of La Plata died Nov. 27, 2012, at Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Clinton.
Born Oct. 5, 1957, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Allan Lee Sweeney and Ida Mae Kaplan Gannon.
He enjoyed tennis, bowling, and shooting pool; but mostly spending time with his family and being a father and a grandfather. He placed value on family and friends above all material things.
He operated his own cleaning business for more than 20 years with many long-term customers.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruby Mae Kaplan; paternal grandmother, Catherine C. Suit; grandfather, Elmer J. Sweeney; and maternal grandfather, Robert Kaplan.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Henry M. Gannon; sons, Michael A. Sweeney of Port Republic and Robert J. Wyatt and his wife, Pam of Waldorf; daughters, Carey J. Richmond and her husband, William of St. Leonard and Shannon C. Wyatt and Hillary M. Sweeney, both of Oxon Hill; former wife, Diane Wyatt-Sweeney; brothers, John P. Sweeney and his wife, Susan and Jeff Sweeney and his wife, Louise; sister, Brenda M. Teutsch and her husband, David; life-long friend, Greg Snoots; grandchildren, Garrett, Reagan, Ashlyn, Reese, Billy, Brianna, Hannah, Allysa, Maddie, Isabella, Gabriella, Nina, Pria, Monica and Arianna; great-grandchild, Blake; and godson, Raymond.
A life celebration gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 1 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall. The Rev. Dean Wolfe will officiate. Burial will take place at Chesapeake Highlands Memorial Gardens, Port Republic.
Pallbearers will be Michael Sweeney, Jeff Sweeney, John Sweeney, Hillary Sweeney, Billy Wood, Robert Wyatt, David Teutsch and Jeff Sweeney Jr.
