Robert Barry Sweeney, 55, of La Plata died Nov. 27, 2012, at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton.

He was born Oct. 5, 1957, to the late Allan Lee Sweeney and Ida Mae Kaplan Gannon in Washington, D.C.

He enjoyed many things, including tennis, bowling and shooting pool, but mostly spending time with his family and being a father and a grandfather. He had an incredible passion of placing value on family and friends above all material things.

He operated his own cleaning business for more than 20 years with many long term customers.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allan Lee Sweeney; grandmother, Ruby Mae Kaplan; paternal grandmother, Catherine C. Suit; grandfather, Elmer J Sweeney; and maternal grandfather, Robert Kaplan.

He is survived by his mother, Ida Gannon; stepfather, Henry M. Gannon; sons, Michael A. Sweeney of Port Republic and Robert J. Wyatt and his wife, Pam, of Waldorf; daughters, Carey J. Richmond and her husband, William, of St. Leonard, Shannon C. Wyatt of Oxon Hill and Hillary M. Sweeney of Oxon Hill; former wife, Diane Wyatt-Sweeney; brothers, John P. Sweeney and his wife, Susan, and Jeff Sweeney and his wife, Louise; sister, Brenda M. Teutsch and her husband, David; life-long friend, Greg Snoots; grandchildren, Garrett, Reagan, Ashlyn, Reese, Billy, Brianna, Hannah, Allysa, Maddie, Isabella, Gabriella, Nina, Pria, Monica and Arianna; great-grandchild, Blake; and godson, Raymond.

Family will receive friends for a celebration of life from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road in Charlotte Hall.

A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dean Wolfe officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at Chesapeake Highlands Memorial Gardens, 3270 Broomes Island Road in Port Republic.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sweeney, Jeff Sweeney, John Sweeney, Hillary Sweeney, Billy Wood, Robert Wyatt, David Teutsch and Jeff Sweeney Jr.
