Reports of underage drinking at an Olney house party turned into a shooting investigation Saturday night, but police could not confirm shots were fired.

Officers went to the 17500 block of Old Baltimore Road in Olney after receiving calls from neighbors that there was a "large, possibly underage, drinking party," said Officer Britta Thomas, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman.

Around the time officers arrived at the party, "what sounded like possibly shots fired in the area" were reported by neighbors, Thomas said. Officers arriving at the scene also reported that they heard something that sounded like gun shots and requested more units, Thomas said.

After a thorough investigation, Thomas said police found no evidence of a gun being fired — no weapon or shell casings were found and no injuries related to a gun shot were reported.

Thomas said because many of the party attendees had "cleared out" of the area before police arrived, they were unable to say how many were present. She did, however, say it was a "significant number."

Thomas said at least one underage drinking citation was issued at the party.
