John Rhodock Welch Jr., 82, of Fort Washington
John Rhodock Welch Jr., 82, of Fort Washington died Nov. 30, 2012, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Jan. 20, 1930, in Ironsides, he was the son of the late John R. Welch Sr. and the late Adella Elizabeth Rison Welch.
Mr. Welch was a plant mechanic for more than 32 years with the Blue Plains Sewage Plant and was a member of Old Durham Episcopal Church, Ironsides. He loved working on cars, his garden and yard, and bowling. He most enjoyed being with family and friends over coffee in the mornings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Richard Welch; and sisters, Mildred Bowie and Janet Welch Edgecomb.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Welch; brothers, George M. and his wife Susie Welch, Charles and his wife Judy Welch and Thomas and his wife Linda Welch, all of Nanjemoy; and sister, Hazel and her husband Ismael Rivera of Sanford, N.C.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Raymond Funeral Service, La Plata and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at Nanjemoy Baptist Church. The Rev. Willard Preston Jr. will officiate. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Bowie, Steven and Harry Welch, Roland Rivera, and Marty and Tony Dudley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Rivera, Bobby Welch, Garland Barbee and Tommy, Marty and Charles Welch.
