Catherine Estelle Hess, 97, Hollywood

Catherine Estelle Hess, 97, of Hollywood, formerly of Suitland, died Nov. 22, 2012, in Leonardtown.

Born March 15, 1915, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Karl Frederick and the late Maggie May Scheytt of Washington, D.C.

She graduated from Eastern High School in 1933 and moved to St. Mary’s County from Suitland in 1976.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus Stevens Hess Jr., whom she married June 25, 1934, in Washington, D.C.; daughter, Gail Soukup; siblings, Margaret Cooper and Frederick and Edward Scheytt; and granddaughter, Karen Schavey.

She is survived by her children, Joyce McCabe of Henderson, Nev., and Thaddeus S. Hess III and his wife Janet McGrane of Newburg; son-in-law, Merlyn Soukup of Laurel; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at Our Fathers House, California.
