Army Sgt. 1st Class Matthew R. Kanowith has re-enlisted in the U.S. Army’s Indefinite Program. He is a senior musician assigned to the U.S. Army Field Band at the Fort George G. Meade installation in Anne Arundel County. He has served in the military for 12 years.

Kanowith is the son of Lynn and Temma Kanowith of Silver Spring. He is a 1991 graduate of Sherwood High School in Olney.

Cadet Benjamin R. Thompson of Silver Spring was elected to the Area 9 Student Advisory Committee of the BACCHUS Network, a career peer education initiative that gives student leaders skills to address campus health and safety issues. This is the first time The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., has had a representative on the committee.
