Two teens were charged with arson in connection with a trashcan fire at Mattawoman Middle School last week.
According to information provided by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, just after noon Nov. 28, a student discovered a fire in the second-level boys bathroom at the Waldorf middle school.
The fire marshal was notified the next day.
According to the report, “damage due to the fire was minimal and limited to the trashcan.”
Two teenage boys, 13, were accused Friday of setting the fire and were charged with first-degree arson and second-degree malicious burning.
The teens were released to parent custody without incident at their homes, according to the report. They await further action from the Department of Juvenile Services.
