South Carroll High School will hold its annual “South Carroll Idol” contest Dec. 8.

Starting at 6 p.m., six semi-finalists who have been selected by their peers will compete at the school— 1300 W. Liberty Road in Sykesville — for the title of South Carroll High School Idol. Modeled after the popular television show “American Idol,” the South Carroll contest asks competing students to test their singing talents.

This year’s contestants are Hannah Kelly, Megan McPherson, Shannon Driskell, Lindsay Hoffman, Carling Witt and Karleigh Hubble.

Last year’s winner, Taylor Rieland, now a freshman at Towson University, will serve as one of the three judges who will select the top three contestants, with the audience picking the new South Carroll Idol.

Admission to the contest is $8 at the door, with visitors receiving a $1-discount if they bring a canned food donation. Donations will be given to Carroll County Food Sunday, a nonprofit that works to meet the emergency and supplemental food needs of residents of Carroll County.
