Holiday concert Musicians Josh Urban, Lynn Hollyfield, Josh Namyst and Steve Hung will team up to offer the “There’s a Red Star up on the Christmas Tree” concert featuring a mix of styles ranging from rock and blues to finger-style acoustic and material including originals, holiday classics and funny stories.

Hosted at the Southern Maryland Creative Cultural Center at Quality Printers in White Plains, the community spirit of past concerts is carried forward with the event. Canned goods will be collected. The concert will be held 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at Quality Printers, 10485 Theodore Green Blvd., White Plains. A $5 suggested donation is requested. All ages welcome. Call 240-682-2801.

Contra dance A contra dance sponsored by Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance featuring caller Elgin Perry will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Road, Chaptico. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the dancing begins at 7:30. Beginners are encouraged to arrive at 7 p.m. to get instruction in the various dances. Musica Caliente! An Evening of Latin Pop The College of Southern Maryland's Latin Ensemble, Ritmo Caché will feature music by Selena, Eddie Palmieri, Rubén Blades and other Latin pop stars as well as the premiere of a new song by Southern Maryland composer Brian Scott at 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at the La Plata campus, 8730 Mitchell Road. ‘A Christmas Story’ The Newtowne Players will perform “A Christmas Story” by Philip Grecian Thursdays-Sundays through Dec. 16. Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Performances are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; Sunday shows begin at 3:30 p.m. Performances are held at Three Notch Theatre, 21744 South Coral Drive, Lexington Park.
