The Calvert Marine Museum is hosting a seasonal holiday art show featuring artwork by students at Our Lady Star of the Sea School in Solomons.
Works of watercolor, paper and collage will be on display in the museum lobby through Jan. 1. Stop in during the Solomons Christmas Walk from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8.
The art program has been under the direction of Lori Smith since 2001 and is assisted by Lana Clews. Not only do the students meet weekly for art classes, but they have the opportunity to participate in an afternoon art club throughout the school year. Art students participate in many community outreach programs, including projects and cards for nursing homes, the armed forces and the Paper Crane project for Japan. Their drawings are often printed in the Jr. Saints publication by the Catholic Standard newspaper.
The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Museum members and children younger than 5 are always admitted free. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and military with valid ID, and $2 for children 5 to 12.
