Albert Edward Lemke, 89, Mechanicsville

Albert Edward Lemke, 89, of Mechanicsville died Dec. 3, 2012, at home.

Born Sept. 16, 1923, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Benjamin Rudolph Lemke and the late Victoria M. Herman.

He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed boating, crabbing, bicycling and yard sales. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he also received the Good Conduct Medal while serving his country.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Elizabeth Higgs Lemke; brothers, Benjamin Lemke and Roland Lemke; and sisters, Victoria Mary Serrin and Ruby Libby.

He is survived by his daughters, Connie Gilcrist of Seabrook and Judy Helton and her husband Bob of Flintstone; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and friend, Barbara Brooks.

Visitation and prayers were held Dec. 6 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Dec. 7. The Rev. James Chance will officiate. Burial will take place at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf.
