Bids for new structure to be accepted in spring
On Saturday, The Maryland State Highway Administration will close Route 234, Budds Creek Road, at the bridge over Allens Fresh Run in Charles County for 12 hours to inspect and resurface the temporary bridge put in place in 2011 following severe storm damage.
Rains from Tropical Storm Lee swelled the creek and washed away the permanent bridge.
According to a press release from the Charles County government, the road will be closed at the bridge from midnight to noon Dec. 8.
According to the release, electronic message signs will be placed alerting motorists of the work and detour signs will be placed over the weekend guiding motorists around the closure via Route 6 and Route 236.
SHA, according to the release, plans to advertise a bid for the permanent bridge structure in the spring, and to build the new roadway beside the temporary bridge so the road will not have to be closed during construction.
