On Nov. 29, the Board of Governors of the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center approved a new master’s of social work degree program and a new bachelor’s in social work program for presentation at Salisbury University. The two social work programs will begin in the fall 2013 semester.
Salisbury University joins 13 other universities that are located at and presenting 95 academic programs at SMHEC.
The master’s program will give graduates an accredited degree that prepares them for licensure with Maryland agencies. All courses required for both programs will be offered at SMHEC. The degrees will be supported by a $432,000 grant from the University System of Maryland, according to a news release from SMHEC.
A full-time coordinator for the two programs will be at SMHEC as early as March 2013, providing counseling and advice for students interested in the programs. Information sessions are planned for spring and summer sessions of 2013, including at an SMHEC Open House scheduled for March 21. Both programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education a must to earn a graduate a license to counsel clients.
