Regular exercise not only improves the body, but also improves the mind. Calvert County senior centers offer fitness programs for any fitness level. Programs are open to anyone 50 and older. Here is a sample: Calvert Pines offers Walk to the Beat classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. and a fitness room full of equipment. North Beach offers Sun Tai Chi class Mondays at 10 and 10:50 a.m. and an Increase the Beat class on Mondays at 9 a.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Southern Pines offers a Walk with Ease class Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. All three sites offer an Arthritis Foundation exercise program at varying times and days of the week. Contact a local senior center to find out more about these free fitness opportunities.

Enjoy holiday activities in December starting with a Christmas Carol Sing-Along at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. Decorate pre-baked cookies at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. Enjoy food, friends, Santa and the 2-4-U Band at the Christmas Party at noon Friday, Dec. 14.

Christmas week activities include a classic Christmas movie at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18; Share Your Christmas Tradition at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19; a gift exchange game at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 (bring a wrapped gift no more than $5 to participate); and eggnog smoothies at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21.

Fun Days of Christmas at the center continue with a Christmas Carol Sing-Along at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, and Billiards Christmas Fun at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. Enjoy a holiday show presented by the Charles County Show Troupe at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, and rock to a 1950s Jingle Bell Rock Christmas Party with Elvis at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

Join the fun of holiday events starting with a gift exchange at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 (bring a new, wrapped gift $5 or less to swap). Celebrate at an Old Fashioned Christmas Party at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, with games, prizes and entertainment by Juz Dance. Join the Holiday Sing-Along at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18. Make delicious cookies at the Holiday Cookie Bake at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. Bring grandkids and enjoy Intergenerational Bingo and refreshments at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26.
