Little Flower School girls, St. Michael’s School boys win in overtime in SYBL

Regulation wasn’t enough to decide a Sunday Youth Basketball League girls contest between Mother Catherine Spalding School and Little Flower School on Sunday.

It needed one more period and only one basket in that extra time to determine a winner.

Alice Wheaton’s basket in overtime was the decider as Little Flower edged Mother Catherine, 17-15.

The teams were tied at 4 after one quarter, at 11 after three quarters and at 15 after regulation. Mother Catherine led 7-5 at halftime.

Wheaton led Little Flower (1-2 overall) with 10 points. Jennah Hutson led Mother Catherine (3-3) with eight points.

Cardinal Hickey Academy rallied back in the fourth quarter to knock off Father Andrew White School on Saturday, 25-22.

Father Andrew White led 13-4 at halftime, shutting out Cardinal Hickey 5-0 in the second quarter.

Trailing 17-10 entering the fourth, Cardinal Hickey came all the way back to win, helped by a three-pointer from Annie Doyle.

Marissa Laidley led Cardinal Hickey (4-1) with 11 points, while Doyle and Samantha VanSlyke each had six.

Kate Barthelmes and Michaela Guy each had eight points to lead Father Andrew White (5-1).

Our Lady Star of the Sea School pulled away in the third quarter en route to a 21-16 victory over St. Michael’s School on Sunday.

Our Lady led 6-0 after the first quarter, but St. Michael’s rallied back to tie the game at 6 at halftime. Our Lady outscored St. Michael’s 11-4 in the third quarter and picked up the win.

Erin Balderson led Our Lady (3-2) with 12 points. Jamie Hamilton and Alli Turner each had six points to lead St. Michael’s (0-3).

Archbishop Neale School defeated St. John’s School on Sunday, 34-9. Archbishop Neale led 14-4 at halftime and shut out St. John’s 14-0 in the fourth quarter.

Brenna Grooms led Archbishop Neale (1-2) with 13 points, while Brandi Glascoe had eight. Lindsay Remetz led St. John’s (0-4) with six points.

St. Michael’s boys win in overtime

Extra time was needed for the boys as well on Sunday as St. Michael’s outlasted Our Lady, 43-37.

The game was tied at 20 at halftime and St. Michael’s took a 27-23 lead to the fourth quarter. Our Lady rallied to force overtime, but St. Michael’s took charge in the extra period for the win.

Jaleen Sauls led St. Michael’s (2-1) with 12 points, while Tyler Young and Cameron Smith each had 11. Brian Quinn led Our Lady (1-3) with 13 points, while Brendan Dziekiewicz had 10.

Little Flower held off a fourth-quarter rally from Mother Catherine to win on Sunday, 31-25.

Little Flower led 23-13 at halftime, but saw Mother Catherine attempt a comeback in the fourth. A 10-4 quarter was not enough as Little Flower pulled through with the win.

Seth Blevins led Little Flower (4-1) with 15 points, while Greg Lawrence had eight and Max McDermott had six. Brandon Lowe led Mother Catherine (1-3) with 10 points, while Hank Bowling had nine.

Father Andrew White picked up a 22-15 victory over Cardinal Hickey on Saturday.

Father Andrew White led 10-4 at halftime. Cardinal Hickey closed to within 12-8 entering the fourth quarter, but it was not enough.

Kavon Goldring and Jordan Jones each had five points to lead Father Andrew White (3-2), with Goldring making three of four free throws. Frank McGarvey led Cardinal Hickey (1-3) with six points.

Archbishop Neale knocked off St. John’s on Sunday, 61-10. Archbishop Neale led 35-0 at halftime.

Archbishop Neale (5-0) had 12 different players score in the contest. Jonathon Preston and Mark Harley led with 10 points each, while Lazarus Sutton had eight. Chad Abell led St. John’s (0-4) with four points.
