Prince George’s County police negotiators convinced a man with a shotgun to surrender without incident around 12:30 p.m. Saturday after he barricaded himself inside an Upper Marlboro home for more than 10 hours.

Officers first were called to the home in the 11900 block of Berrybrook Terrace around 2 a.m. early Saturday morning on a family dispute call and discovered the armed man inside, said Cpl. Maria McKinney, a Prince George’s County police spokeswoman.

Police evacuated other occupants, with some believed to be family members of the man, McKinney said. They did not have details as of 1 p.m. Saturday about why the man barricaded himself in the home, she said.

“It is still under investigation as to what occurred in the home prior to officers’ arrival on the scene,” McKinney said.
