A woman was hospitalized after a Prince George’s County fire engine collided with her vehicle in south Laurel while responding to an emergency call Sunday afternoon.
Around 3:15 p.m., firefighters were alerted to a possible apartment fire in the 13800 block of Briarwood Drive. While responding to the call, a fire engine from the Calverton Fire/EMS station was involved in the collision at Contee Road and Claxton Drive, said Mark Brady, the fire/EMS department’s chief spokesman.
The woman, who was the only one in the vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, Brady said.
The three firefighters on the fire engine at the time of the crash were not injured, Brady said.
The incident that firefighters had been responding to ended up being a malfunctioning dryer, Brady said.
Prince George’s County police are now investigating the crash, Brady said.
