Charles David Unkle, 65, of Callaway died Dec. 5, 2012, at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.

Born May 18, 1947, in Leonardtown, he was the son of the late James Unkle and Thelma Regina (Thompson) Unkle.

He retired from Chaney Enterprises in January 2012, where he was employed for 41 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970. He enjoyed the game of pool, loved eating oysters and especially valued spending time at family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Melinda (Higgs) Unkle; daughter, Rita Sue Dobry of Great Mills; siblings, Ellen Flood of Lexington Park and James Unkle of Valley Lee; brother-in-law, Francis Higgs of Callaway; three grandchildren, Pete Peters, Melinda Brown and Shauna Kelly; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Peggy Norris, Mary Ann Insley and Robert Unkle.

Family received friends and prayers were recited Dec. 10 at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Joseph A. Calis on Dec. 11 at Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Pete Peters, Mike Brown, Steve Knott, Bobby Unkle Jr., Frank Norris, David “Crocket” Higgs, Kim Unkle and Teddy Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Louis Knott, Francis Higgs, Charles Wilds, Eddie Peters, Daniel “Scillet” Burch, Larry Manderville, Gene Patty and John Dobry.
