A Metrobus driver was arrested by U.S. Marshals while driving on his route Wednesday morning.

The man, Stacy Reed, was arrested and charged in connection with the 2010 killing of Centreville resident Jose Cardona.

Reed, 43, is accused of conspiring to commit a Hobbs Act Robbery, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate commerce.

"Stacy L. Reed has been a Metro employee since August 19, 2012. He was arrested without incident this morning by US Marshals in the presence of Metro Transit Police. Mr. Reed has been relieved of duty..." according to a statement from Metro.

Police said Cordona, 39, of Manassas was found dead May 17, 2010, outside a home in the 14200 block of Compton Road in Clifton after police responded to a call of gunshots.

Cordona, a father of two children, worked regularly as a landscaper and handyman for the Clifton family who owned the 9,000-square-foot home situated on a 10-acre lot.

At a press conference on the one-year anniversary of the shooting, homicide detective Chester Toney told reporters Cordona found two men hiding in the home’s garage and confronted them, along with the mother and a son who lived in the home. He was then fatally shot.

Reed is suspected of driving the two men to the home where Cordona was killed. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Last year, Reynard Lazaro Prather, 22, of Oxon Hill, Md., one of the two men who entered the home, was indicted by a federal grand jury of conspiracy to commit a Hobbs Act robbery, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, use of a firearm in a crime of violence causing death, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. In February, Prather pleaded guilty to those charges. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The second man who entered the home, Tasheik Champean, pleaded guilty last week to the same charges. He has not yet been sentenced.

No attorney information for Reed is yet available.
