The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning reminding the owners of vehicles with expensive wheels and rims to take precautions.

There have been several wheel and rim thefts reported recently. The thefts typically occur overnight and can take just a few minutes.

All four wheels and rims were stolen from two cars in Waldorf between Dec. 4 and 5 — one parked in the 11700 block of Acton Lane and the other parked in the 3500 block of Promenade Place.

Officers J. Morales and R. Gass are investigating, respectively.

In most cases, the thieves lift the car with a jack, quickly remove the tires and leave the vehicle on cinder blocks, bricks or landscaping stones. The thieves might be driving pickups, utility trucks or minivans.

Owners can help prevent the thefts by using lock nuts, parking in well-lit areas, installing a car alarm and reporting anything suspicious to the sheriff’s office.
