Youth roller hockey

St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks will hold youth roller hockey registration for children 6 to 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Leonard Hall Recreation Center in Leonardtown.

Registration can be done online until Jan. 4 at and registrants can also come by the main office in Leonardtown during this time period.

Tide baseball tryouts

The Chesapeake Tide, an 8-U and 9-U travel baseball team, will hold tryouts through the fall and winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. Players cannot turn 9 or 10 years of age by May 1, 2013, depending on the team. The team has an indoor training facility. For more information, call Butch Britton at 410-586-9400.

Soccer tryouts

A U-16 girls travel soccer team playing in WAGS Division II this spring will hold tryouts from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 at Chancellor's Run Regional Park, Field No. 2 in Great Mills. Players must be born after Aug. 1, 1996.

The team is looking to add impact players at all positions to the roster. It is comprised of high school varsity players from Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

Softball players wanted

Baseball camp

St. Mary’s College of Maryland will host a six-week baseball camp starting Jan. 6 with St. Mary’s head baseball coach Lew Jenkins directing the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.

Classes are available for players in grades 1 to 12 and are limited to six players per coach. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunning.

The cost is as low as $99 for six weeks with proceeds to benefit amateur baseball in St. Mary’s City.

Junior coaches program

St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks are recruiting individuals to take part in its junior coaches program, which will begin this winter sports season.

The program is designed to provide additional sports-related opportunities for high school students and to set a standard for effective coaching. A maximum of six coaches will be selected for the first year of the program. First-year coaches are not eligible to participate.

Soccer training

Gretton Goalkeeping will hold weekly outdoor and indoor soccer training sessions for all ages and skill levels at select gyms in the county through the week of Feb. 25. Outdoor sessions will be at various fields in the county.

Coaches needed

The Mechanicsville Youth Lacrosse Club is looking for coaches for their boys youth lacrosse teams for the spring 2013 season.

The players are 5 to 14. Practice starts early March and the season ends late May. Practices are held at Chaptico Park and home games are at Fifth District Park behind Lettie Dent Elementary School.

Players are being sought to play In an adult baseball league. Games will always be played in Southern Maryland.

Officials wanted

The Southern Maryland branch of the Washington Area Lacrosse Officials Association is seeking new officials to officiate boys youth games this spring.

Mandatory training sessions to become a certified US Lacrosse Level 1 boys lacrosse official will be conducted in January and February. Officials must be at least 16 and must submit a written recommendation from their current high school coach if attending high school.

All new officials must be US Lacrosse members or join US Lacrosse in order to take the certification class.

Game fees for youth games range from $45 to $60 per game. Prior lacrosse playing experience is highly desirable.
