A man was shot by a group of robbery suspects who entered his home in Fort Washington early Tuesday, according to Prince George’s County police, who say the home was targeted.

Around 2:22 a.m., police received a report of a residential robbery in the 9100 block of Loughran Road, part of a residential community south of National Harbor.

When police officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound, police said.

Cpl. Edward Martin, a county police spokesman, said police believe there were multiple suspects, but it is still being determined how the suspects entered and exited the home.

Martin said a preliminary investigation showed that the homeowner confronted the suspects, who then demanded property.

“When the confrontation with the victim ensued, the victim was shot and the suspects fled the scene,” Martin said.

Police said the suspects ran away with an undetermined amount of money and jewelry.

The man was transported to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, police said.

According to police, detectives do not believe the crime was random and have undisclosed evidence that suggests the suspects targeted the home.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the department’s robbery unit at 301-772-4905 or Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS to remain anonymous.
