Montgomery County fire officials are investigating a call for several cars that were on fire in the Piney Branch area of Silver Spring early Thursday morning.

Fire rescue officials from the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Station responded to the call at 3:33 a.m. in the 8600 block of 11th Avenue, according to fire and police officials. Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman, confirmed that at least three vehicles were found on fire at the location. The cause of the fire remained unknown Thursday, said Beth Anne Nesselt, a county Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman.

“We were dispatched for the report of numerous vehicles on fire,” Nesselt said. “Our fire and explosives investigators continue to investigate the circumstances.”

Montgomery County police assisted fire specialists with the call but fire-related investigations are handled by the county’s Fire and Explosive Investigations unit, Innocenti said.
