A school bus turning into the entrance to Windy Hill elementary and middle schools was in a minor accident Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.
Det. Sgt. A. Paton, assistant commander of the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick barrack, said the school bus carrying students was turning left off Boyds Turn Road into the school when a car that was following the bus too closely “glanced” the rear of the bus as it was passing.
Troopers reviewed surveillance video from the bus, Paton said, and saw several children sleeping on the bus “didn’t even wake up” when the accident occurred.
“It was very minor damage,” Paton said.
Paton said all of the parents were notified and no injures were reported.
Calvert County Public Schools Director of Transportation Ed Cassidy said the accident occurred at about 8 a.m. and caused no injuries.
Cassidy said elementary and middle school aged children were on the bus at the time and, as CCPS policy mandates, all students were examined by the school nurse.
He said there was some “superficial damage” to the private vehicle but none to the bus.
