Police are investigating the death of a Prince George’s County woman found Wednesday afternoon pinned underneath the front tire of an SUV in the front yard of a vacant Waldorf house that is under renovation.

Charles County sheriff’s officers responded at 3:06 p.m. to the 4000 block of Green Spring Street, where a homeowner arrived at the house, which he checks on daily, to find the SUV with Darcie Leilani Stanback-Kelton, 42, of Fort Washington underneath it.

Stanback-Kelton was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

It was not immediately clear why Stanback-Kelton was at the home or how she became pinned beneath the SUV, but there were no obvious signs of foul play, Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson said.

“We have a pretty good idea of what happened, but we aren’t in a position to publicly release that information at this point. We’re not sure if she was at the house alone,” Richardson said.

The SUV is registered to one of Stanback-Kelton’s relatives, Richardson added.

Detective G. Higgs is investigating.
