Facility will be in neighborhood near stadium
By JOEL DAVIS
The Charles County Planning Commission approved a site plan for the Fieldside neighborhood community center at its Monday meeting.
The 2.5-acre site will contain a 3,788-square-foot community center, a 100-square-foot bus stop, a 100-square-foot mail kiosk and an 864-square-foot picnic pavilion. The plan also includes a play area, a patio and barbecue area, an event lawn and kitchen gardens.
There will be 31 parking spaces, though the staff report states that developer The St. Charles Cos.í representatives say the center is within walking distance to most of the 490 planned homes in the neighborhood.
The neighborhood is adjacent to Regency Furniture Stadium, the home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
Craig Renner, The St. Charles Cos. vice president, said the bus stop will be for county VanGo service. Commuter buses will continue to serve the park and ride lot using the stadiumís parking lot.
Renner said construction on the community will begin this year, now that final county approvals have been given.
