The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland was recently recognized by the Transportation Association of Maryland as a Friend of Transportation at the 24th annual TAM Conference and Trade Show on Dec. 6 in Cambridge.
Elaine J. Lancaster, TCCSMD’s Regional Transit Coordinator, nominated the council for its continuous efforts to encourage and support transit projects and systems within the region and the State.
The council was honored for its ongoing support and promotion of transit and transit-related programs since 1964, and for providing the framework for cooperation and coordination among the public, private and human services transportation providers.
The council has initiated and continues to support a variety of transit programs, including, but not limited to; Commuter Connections, Rideshare Program, Guaranteed Ride Home Program, Regional Transportation Coordination Program, Regional Transportation Coordination Committee, Senior Volunteer Ride Program, Mobility Management Program and alternate modes of transportation such as car pools, van pools, local transit, subscription bus, hiker-biker trails and commuter bus routes.
