Boys basketball

Perry Street Prep 72, Calverton 34

None of Calverton’s players was able to reach double digits in scoring and the visiting Cougars (5-1, 1-1 MISAL) fell to Bay Conference-leading Perry Street Prep of Washington County on Wednesday.

Cole Ranier, Corey Darden and Nick Nwadike each had eight points for Calverton and Ty Herriott and Ray LaPlaca each scored three. Zane Mass added two points for Calverton, which lost for the first time this season.

The shorthanded Cougars suited up just 8 players tonight but hung tough for a half and trailed by just eight points at the break. But Perry Street erupted for 27 third quarter points to put the game away.

Girls basketball

Perry Street Prep 37, Calverton 30

Shannon Moore scored a team-high 13 points and added seven rebounds but the visiting Cougars (5-4, 1-1) fell to Perry Street Prep on Wednesday.

Elise Bouchard and Angie Horan scored seven and six points, respectively, and Olivia Fisher and Katie Lerch each scored two. Bouchard had a team-best eight boards and Lerch pulled down seven. Fisher added six rebounds.

Northern 52, Huntingtown 28

Mykaela Bailey had a team-high 10 rebounds and five blocks and tied for the team lead with four assists as the host Patriots (4-2 overall) powered to a win over rival Huntingtown on Wednesday. Bailey also added 10 points.

Naaila Cooke scored a team-high 13 points and Mauri Miller added 11. Megan Delamer and Marlee Edinger each scored six. Edinger also added six rebounds while Natalie LaPlaca had six assists and four steals for Northern, which led 28-13 at halftime. The Hurricanes (0-5) remain winless on the season.

Leonardtown 45, Patuxent 34

Destinee Jones scored a team-high 11 points but the host Panthers (1-5 overall) dropped an 11-poinrt decision to the Raiders on Wednesday.

Leonardtown received 17 points from Erin Buhler.

Wrestling

Patriots perfect at Keaser

Northern won all nine of its matches to win the Keaser Invitational held last weekend at North County High School in Anne Arundel County.

The Patriots (10-0, 1-0 SMAC) defeated Eleanor Roosevelt (60-9), Walt Whitman (41-22), Hammond (69-9), Harford Tech (66-12), North County (52-13), Franklin (56-15), Thomas Stone (51-24), Century (53-24) and Liberty (36-22)

Breandan Coughlin (106), Brant Leadbeter (113/120), Eric Hoffman (160) and Cliff Armentrout (285) each won all nine of their matches while Nick McLean (145) was 8-1. Scott Cross (220) won seven matches and freshman Jackson Drum (152) added six wins.
