The West Laurel Civic Association will be hosting a public informational meeting about gangs at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the West Laurel Community Center, 16601 Supplee Lane, Laurel.

Beth Evans, civic association president, said the speaker will be Sgt. Michael Rudinski of the Hyattsville Police Department, an expert on gang-related activity, and the moderator will be District 6 community police officer Cpl. James Beasock of the Prince George's County Police Department.

The meeting will cover topics such as gang-related graffiti, social structure, evidence of gangs and indicator signs that children are becoming involved in gangs.

Evans said the meeting is adults only due to the nature of the discussion, and no one younger than 18 will be allowed.

"Gangs are growing, and they’re targeting children younger and younger," Evans said. "This is the time to ask your questions of a gang expert."

In case of snow, the meeting will be rescheduled for Jan. 17.

For more information, contact Evans at 301-875-7742.
