After reading about the Southern Maryland Originals at the College of Southern Maryland’s call for local playwrights with original scripts for one-act plays, twins Loranika and Varanika Sharma of Waldorf decided to improve the story they were working on.

They converted their story into a script for “Miracle at Downtown Alley.”

Even though the girls were not sure whether they would be considered for the competition because they are 12, they did not get discouraged.

They sent their script to George Johnson, the event’s producer.

To their surprise, the sisters got a call that their script was selected and was going to be produced.

It was a great honor for Loranika and Varanika, who are in seventh grade at Mattawoman Middle School.

On Nov. 17, the sisters went to CSM’s Leonardtown campus to watch their play.

They loved it and said it was surreal to see their script being turned into a play.

They were also called to the stage to take a bow with the actors and director of the play.

They were the youngest playwrights at this year’s event.
