Traffic officers stopped 322 cars and made five drug-related arrests during a DUI checkpoint between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. Dec. 21 at St. Charles Parkway and Gallery Place in Waldorf, the Charles County Sheriff's Office reported.
During one stop, officers found 14 baggies of suspected marijuana inside a car and arrested Michael Andrew Howard, 25, of Waldorf and Keith Darren Glover, 24, of Washington, D.C.
In another vehicle, officers found suspected marijuana, illegal prescription pills, a machete and a butterfly knife. Abram Joseph Harris Jr., 19, Stefan Conrad Gyuras, 20, and a 17-year-old girl, all of Waldorf, were charged with marijuana and drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a person under 21. Harris was also charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
No one was found to be under the influence of alcohol during the checkpoint. In addition, 12 citations, 12 warning and 11 equipment repair orders were issued.
Patrol officers assisted by covering the area with roving patrols focused on traffic enforcement.
