Plans are in the works to give skateboard enthusiasts in Urbana a new area in which to practice their skills.
The Frederick County Board of Commissioners and the Community Foundation of Frederick County have established a fund to provide for the building, planning, maintenance and operation of a skate park within the Urbana Community Park.
The fund aims to raise $300,000 to build the park and provide skaters in the Urbana region a spot to practice.
The county-owned Urbana Community Park is operated by the county Division of Parks and Recreation. The skate park has been in county plans for years but was accelerated with the growth and development of the Urbana area.
Anyone who wants to contribute money to the project can make a secure online donation at www.cffredco.org/urbanaskatepark, or write a check payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, with The Urbana Skate Park Fund written on the memo line.
Checks should be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, MD, 21701.
Donations are tax deductible.
