The Riversdale Park House Museum held an 1812 Winter Evening on Dec. 28 that showcased how the holidays were celebrated back in the early 19th century.
The event featured self-guided tours, people dressed as troops from the War of 1812 and children making decorative ornaments in the style of the time, said Samantha Ferris, education coordinator at the museum. A cook also made a traditional cake that Martha Washington made each year during the holidays.
“This is always one of the most festive events,” Ferris said. “Everyone comes to extend the spirit of the season. It is a really nice window into the past.”
