Police reported no major incidents leading to arrests the weekend of Dec. 22 and 23 or during the Christmas holiday.
Other than several DUI or DWI arrests, Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans (R) said “nothing happened” between Friday, Dec. 21 and Christmas day.
Evans said deputies arrested between six to eight people for driving under the influence of alcohol during saturation patrols conducted by deputies.
Maryland State Police troopers arrested six people for driving while intoxicated during the holiday, said Lt. Randy Stephens, commander of the MSP Prince Frederick barrack.
Four DUI arrests were made during a joint sobriety checkpoint with sheriff’s deputies and the MSP troopers Friday night, Evans said.
Stephens said the overall number of DUI arrests was “a little bit higher than what it’s been” in previous years. He said last year there were four arrests made in one day, compared to this year’s six arrests Dec. 21.
“One [DUI arrest] is too many,” Evans said. “There’s just too many people drinking and driving still.”
