Montgomery police investigate multiple mail thefts -- Gazette.Net


Montgomery County police are investigating four recent incidents in which outgoing mail was stolen from residential mailboxes.

A person or persons have been seen stealing the mail, removing checks and attempting to cash the checks at local banks. According to Montgomery County Police Officer Britta Thomas, it has not been determined whether more than one person is involved in the incidents.

The thefts occurred in the 9000 block of Charlie Farm Court in Gaithersburg, the 10000 block of Tynewick Terrace in Silver Spring, the 900 block of Willow Tree Terrace in Rockville, and the 500 block of Sunrise Hill Road in Derwood, according to police. Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Rebecca Innocenti said the amount stolen would not be released.

The first incident took place in October 2012, the second was in November, the third was on Dec. 11 and the fourth was on Jan. 2, according to a release from Montgomery County police.

Police report that a gray, sedan-like car was observed in the area of several of the incidents.
