Walter Anthony Brown, 75, La Plata
Walter Anthony Brown, 75, of La Plata died Jan. 5, 2013, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton.
Born Sept. 11, 1937, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Harry F. Brown and the late Anna Emma Bucci Brown.
Mr. Brown was the owner and operator with his wife of KWW Brown Corp., where he was a homebuilder for more than 40 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata. He also worked for the Government Printing Office for 12 years and was the owner of J&W Market in Bensville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, member of the Forestville chapter, member of the Elks Lodge in Waldorf and the Lions Club in Waldorf. He was a talented builder of custom built homes and was able to draw up his own plans for customers if they were looking for something special or unique. He was a Washington Redskins fan who also loved Western movies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Cranford.
He is survived by his son, Walter A. Brown Jr. of La Plata; daughters, Kim and her husband John Purdy of La Plata and Wendy and her husband Jack Bland of La Plata; brothers, Harry Brown of California, Thomas Brown of California, Richard Brown of Rhode Island and Bobby Brown of California; sisters, Anna Rinaldi of Rhode Island and Louise Volpe of California; grandchildren, Amber Nelson, Brittnee Brown, Rhiannon Brown, Shelbie Harrison, John Purdy III, Jenna Purdy, Walter Brown III and Austin Brown; and great-grandchildren, Camden Nelson and Brynn Nelson.
Visitation and a wake service were Jan. 10 at Raymond Funeral Service, La Plata. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert Buchmeier will officiate. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family.
