Thomas Rudolph “Sonny Boy” Espina, 78, of Charlotte Hall died Jan. 3, 2013, at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown.
Born Dec. 7, 1934, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Edna Mae (McDonough) and Paul Nasan Espina.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He retired from the Lithographers Union after 35 years of service.
He enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing, playing the lottery and hot rods. But mostly he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a Washington Redskins fan. In his younger days he enjoyed bowling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George “Buddy” Espina; and sisters, Helen DeLeon, Blanche McGee, Thelma Espina, Nancy Sison and Betty Lou Espina. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Karen (Brown) Espina; children, Mark Espina and his wife, Bonnie, Pamela Espina and Christopher P. Espina; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea, Allison, Ryan, Sara, Daniel, Kandice and Christopher; four great-grandchildren, Mekhi, Malayna, Aiden and Charlie; and sisters, Rosa Bautista, Elizabeth “Betty” Jobe, Mary “Duty” Davis and Juanita “Nita” Taylor; and a large extended family.
The family received friends and prayers were said Jan. 8 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall. A graveside service will be held today, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown.
