Joe Chenelly of Lusby, Kelly McConkey of Dunkirk and Tracy McGuire of Huntingtown were all sworn into the Calvert County Board of Education at the start of its meeting Thursday. Eugene Karol of Port Republic was named board president and McConkey was named vice president.

Chenelly was elected to represent the board for District 1, replacing William “Bill” Chambers, who decided against seeking re-election. McGuire, the District 2 incumbent, ran unopposed. McConkey won the District 3 seat against former board president Rose Crunkleton. The board’s fifth member is Dawn Balinksi of Lusby, who, like Karol, is in an at-large seat.

Chenelly, McConkey and McGuire were sworn in by Clerk of the Calvert County Circuit Court Kathy P. Smith.

“I think we’ve put together an excellent board and I’m very happy,” Karol said.
