I just read several anti-gun letters in The Calvert Recorder on Jan. 4, 2013, that left me pondering. The liberal left always purports they are for the little guy and against anything that will hurt the disadvantaged. So, why on earth would they have such disregard for the elderly, meek and our children? Liberals find it OK to protect our banks, businesses, courthouses, government buildings, social elites, politicians and their children with good guys with guns, yet they would have the rest of us defenseless.

An armed citizen in this country saves life and property every day due to the use of a firearm. Picture a housewife home alone during a home invasion. I would rather have her armed and with the opportunity to protect herself with a firearm instead of defenseless, to be potentially raped and murdered. Same goes with the elderly and the vulnerable among us — they also would be left at the mercy of the criminal element. A firearm puts a 96-year-old great-grandmother on the same footing as Chuck Norris.

As far as firearms to protect our children at school, take a walk around the schools of our politicians’ and social elite’s children. Yep, they have good guys with guns protecting them, yet you would leave our own children vulnerable to evil nut jobs who would stop at nothing to create as much mayhem as possible with only a gun-free zone sign to protect them. More restrictive gun laws would only hurt the law abiding citizen and embolden those who want to perpetrate harm upon us.
