North Point 37, Northern 33

Trailing 28-8 through the first seven bouts, the North Point wrestling team responded by winning the next six out of the final seven weight classes to earn the comeback road victory over Northern on Tuesday night in a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference contest.

North Point (20-3, 4-1 SMAC) handed the Patriots (13-1, 4-1) their first loss of the season.

Kyle Gascon (120 pounds), Malachi Edmond (126) and Nick Cutter (132) brought the Eagles back to within 28-26 thanks to three straight pins.

North Point then got two more victories by major decision from Tyler Morgan (138) and Clayton Vermillion (145) to take a 34-28 lead. Andrew Lohr clinched the win at 152 with a win by decision.

Northern’s Eric Hoffman earned a pin in the final bout, but it wasn’t enough.

North Point is off until Tuesday when it travels to Great Mills for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
