The Chesapeake Tide, an 8-U and 9-U travel baseball team, will hold tryouts through the winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. The Southern Maryland Flyers Youth Basketball Organization will hold tryouts for its newly formed eighth-grade boys basketball team starting Jan. 15 until the last roster slot has been filled.
The Flyers seeking 10 eighth-grade players to fill their roster and talented seventh-graders are welcome to try out as well.

Charles County Parks and Recreation is holding registration for its middle school basketball leagues.
This program is open to all students in sixth- to eighth-grades for the 2012-13 school year. Players can only play at the middle school community center that they currently attend. Students attending private school must play for the center in their appropriate school zone.
The cost is $75 if registered by Feb. 16 and $90 after that date. The registration deadline is March 2.

The Southern Maryland Youth Flag Football League will hold registration for its NFL Flag spring season from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 and 23 at Modells Sporting Goods in Waldorf.
The league is open to children 5 to 17 of all skill levels and is endorsed by the NFL and is a member of USA Football. The season will start in April and will run until early June.

The Pisgah Youth Soccer Association, which serves Pisgah, Ironsides, Marbury and Nanjemoy, is holding open online registration for the spring season for children 4 to 18.
